Jaime Zobel de Ayala
White Walls on Black
2009
Print on canvas
100 x 100 cm
In this series of White Walls on Black, which was part of his 2010 exhibit, Solutions in Surface and Light, Jaime Zobel de Ayala utilized photography in its basic form: to show the interplay of light and shadow with objects (“photography”, in its literal sense, means “drawing with light”).
“Everything starts from a photograph, and then it goes beyond the photo,” he has been quoted to say. “If I take pictures of a wall, by the time I’m finished with (the artwork), it has nothing to do with a wall. It’s something totally different.”
